Abstract (EN)
Art has always accompanied humanity throughout human history. Warfare, technological developments and social movements have given direction to mankind as well as art. Today, art is not only fine arts but also spreads and creates other branches and sub-branches. It is formed according to modern life's needs and it produces products. Graphic design is a good example for this. Another area is industrial design. Industrial design while distinct from art, it intercommunicates aesthetic values within, is important and remarkable. The development of contemporary design concept hasn't changed much since the First World War, and today it is still bounded to ergonomic, economic and functional bases. Although industrial design is a field related to art in terms of aesthetic values, direct interaction is not observed. On the other hand, art has contributed to many field productions with its theoretical and practical methods accumulated over the years. This study examines the design principles through artistic perception. In order to investigate and apply this, the motorcycle products actively used today are focused on. By examining motorcycle designs in art perspective namely design principles (rhythm, balance, rate ratio/scale, emphasis, contrast, integrity, hierarchy) and analyses typical aesthetic values within different art movements. In this way, by making experiments on motorcycle design, aims to investigate the relationship between art and design. Furthermore I aim to define design principles through art & style perception in the shaping process. I want to determine what kind of contribution it can make to the design process and design methods through practical and theoretical studies. In this thesis we will be covering the examination of motorcycle design in terms of art and design, and based upon this analysis redesign motorcycle. Scope is, this thesis aims to present three different motorcycle designs by taking into account the characteristics of three art movements.
