Research on the relation between dealing ways of overcoming stress and intolerance to uncertainty

The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between university students' styles of coping with stress and their intolerance to uncertainty. The sample of the research consists of 262 university students, 160 female and 102 male, who received undergraduate education in various departments of universities in Istanbul in the 2020-2021 academic year. Participants were determined on a voluntary basis. "Personal Information Form" to obtain data on the demographic characteristics of the people included in the data collection, the "Stress Coping Styles Scale" to understand which coping styles they use, and the "Intolerance to Uncertainty Scale" to understand the level of intolerance to uncertainty. ' used. The analysis of the data was carried out using the Spss 22.0 package program. In the study, according to the results of the multiple linear regression analysis applied to understand the predictive level of the scores of the stress coping styles scale and intolerance to uncertainty scale scores, a moderate relationship emerged between the styles of coping with stress and intolerance to uncertainty. There was no significant relationship between intolerance of uncertainty and intolerance to uncertainty with the variables of gender, mother and father education level, place where most of the life was spent, perceived income level, having a chronic illness and alcohol use. A significant difference was observed between the living environment, psychological help-seeking status, and perceived parenting attitudes variables and intolerance to uncertainty. It is aimed that this study will be a source for other studies on stress coping styles and intolerance to uncertainty.
