Investigation of strontium adsorption behaviours on the modified diatomite

The Radioactive waste is the major cause of pollution on the earth soil and it?s in the liquid waste groups. The Method of adsorption is used for making radioactive waste less active and reducing the volume of radioactive waste by making it solid-state.In this study, both diatomite and adsorbent modified with the 2-okso-glutarik acid was used with batch system for removal of strontium from aqueous solutions. The pH, density and cation exchange capacity of the these adsorbents was determined. The XRF, BET, SEM, XRD ve FTIR techniques were used for chemical characterization. In this study, the paramaters like, the amount of adsorbent, shaking time, the amount of organic, the pH of solution, initial strontium concentration and temperature that affect adsorption were investigated. Optimum adsorption conditions for diatomite were found as amount 0,25 g, time 180 min., pH 7, Sr conc. 50 ppm, temperature 25 ?C. Adsorption efficiency is 74,1±2,6%. Optimum adsorption conditions for diatomite modified with organic were determined as amount 0,25 g, time 180 min., organic concentration 5%, pH 7, Sr conc. 50 ppm, temperature 25 0 C. Adsorption efficiency is 77,9±1,4%. For both of them, adsorption kinetics fitted with the pseudo second order model. The adsorption characterization for two material was determined appropriate to Freundlich isoterm models. Using with the temperature data, ?Ho= 22,94 kJ/mol, ?S O = 0,12k J/molK ?Go= -13,71 kJ/mol for diatimite, ?Ho= 109,96 kJ/mol, ?SO= 0,41 kJ/molK and ?Go= -12,22 kJ/mol for modified diatimite, respectively
