A study on the concepts of the sublime and anxiety with reference to p. j. de loutherbourg's eidophusikon and c. d. friedrich's rückenfigur

In this thesis examines the relationship between the concepts of the "sublime" and "anxiety" in Early German Romanticism. The concept of the "sublime" in the 18th century and the concept of "anxiety" in the 19th century are discussed in relation to the sense of art of the period. These two concepts, in turn, are examined concerning the Eidophusikon, considered one of the first mechanics of cinema in terms of projection, and the Rückenfigur as a painting technique. Firstly, the Eidophusikon and the concept of the "sublime," then the Rückenfigur and the concept of "anxiety" are connected. The similarities of the "sublime" with "anxiety," which has significant differences with the qualities of the beautiful, are exhibited.
