Özet (EN)
One of the most common disorders among women is osteoporosis. The chances of getting this disease increase with age, especially during menopause and in women with diabetes. The current research looks at the risk factors for osteoporosis in postmenopausal Iraqi women who are diabetes and non-diabetic. This research was carried out on two groups of diabetic (with and without osteoporosis) (N=70), and non-diabetic postmenopausal women (N=70). All participants had their bone mineral density measured using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry at the L2–L4 vertebrae (Anteroposterior projection) and femoral neck (DEXA). The results indicated a higher prevalence of osteoporosis in diabetic postmenopausal women in comparison to non-diabetic healthy women. Among different potential risk factors age, menopause duration, and high level of plasma phosphor were significantly associated with increased risk of osteoporosis in diabetic postmenopausal women. As well, these women have a high T-score in the lumbar spine, and as a result, osteoporosis occurs in the lumbar spine. In conclusion, postmenopausal diabetes women had substantially lower T score values and a higher incidence of osteoporosis than healthy postmenopausal women, according to this research.
