Abstract (EN)
The study included the collection of 60 samples of children between 1-10 years with tonsillitis from both genders, for the period between 15/11/2021 to 15/2/2022, from Samarra General Hospital and private clinics in Iraq. The statistical analysis showed significant differences of infection between male and female, at 63.33% and 36.66%, respectively. As for age groups, the highest infection rate was in the 5-6-year-old group with a rate of 36.66%. 53 samples gave a bacterial growth rate of 88.33%, and bacterial isolates were diagnosed by a set of microscopic and biochemical tests. The results of this diagnosis showed that Staphylococcus aureus was one of the most common bacterial isolates in tonsillitis, with a rate of 60.37%, Streptococcus viridanse 13.20%, Bacillus 9.43%, Streptococcus pyogenes 7.54%, Pseudomonas aerginosa 5.66%, and Klebsiella pneumoniae 3.77%. Isolates, were tested for sensitivity to ten antibiotics. The inhibitory effect of two types of hot and alcoholic aqueous plant extracts of cinnamon and coctus on isolated bacteria at concentrations (12.5, 25, 50, 100, 200, 400) mg / mL were studied. The results of the current study showed the superiority of alcoholic extracts over hot aqueous extracts in inhibiting the growth of bacterial isolates. This is a new finding for Iraq regarding the synergistic blend of these plants with bacteria resistant. 2022, 57 pages Keywords: Tonsillitis, Saussurea costus, Cinnamomum cassia, Antibiotics
