The educational value of Süleyman Tevfik's tale books and their contribution to Turkish language

Children's literature serves a dual purpose; it not only entertains, providing an engaging pastime but also fulfills an educational role by instructing while amusing. It facilitates the child's integration with daily life, thereby cultivating the potential for positive attitudes and behaviors in response to life's events. Among the varied elements of children's literature, fairy tales are particularly salient, enhancing the child's linguistic skills, comprehension, and expressive ability, while also imparting national and universal values. The Second Constitutional Era marks the inception of many intellectuals' literary careers, including Süleyman Tevfik. With his multidimensional artistic identity, Tevfik made substantial contributions to Turkish literature and aimed to address the societal issues of his time. His oeuvre is extensive, but his fairy tales are especially significant for their role in Turkish language instruction and intellectual development in children. This research, focused on Süleyman Tevfik's fairy tales, is composed of four main sections. Section I elucidates the research problem, objectives, significance, limitations, and definitions; Section II offers an exposition of the fairy tale, including its definition, origin, its role in child education, requisite characteristics, and subsequently provides information concerning Tevfik's life, works, and identity. In Section III, the research methodology, model, data collection, and analytical procedures are delineated; Section IV conducts a comprehensive examination of twenty of Tevfik's fairy tales, assessing their educational merit and contribution to Turkish, covering aspects such as theme, setting, characters, auxiliary elements, positive and negative messages, lexical choices, motifs, original features, and the contribution to comprehension and narration skills.
