Preparation of disaster and emergency plan of Sultanbeyli State Hospital

Türkiye has a critical importance in terms of both political and socioeconomic aspects due to its location connecting two continents, ongoing international crises around it, and being right in the middle of the Middle East and Europe. Türkiye has accepted and granted residence permits to many immigrants/refugees from different countries for various reasons, especially in the last fifteen years. These people have settled in our big cities, especially with the expectation of finding a job, without taking their own lifestyles into consideration. The Marmara Region and Istanbul carry a very large portion of this extra human load. While the population increases linearly due to such reasons, the risk of the city being affected by possible disasters increases logarithmically. Türkiye is below the European Union data in terms of hospital beds and specialist physician statistics per hundred thousand people. In the last decade, many new fully equipped hospitals operated by the public and private sectors have started to provide services in Istanbul. However, the quality of healthcare services is still not at a level that meets the needs of the increasing population. Depending on factors such as location, technical infrastructure, qualified manpower and number, the load that each hospital can handle in the event of a possible disaster is different. In this study, we have mentioned the precautions to be taken by hospitals in various disaster scenarios and the entire preparation process, using the guidelines published in the second version by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Health in June 2021 and updated by the US California Hospital Association in 2014.
