Abstract (EN)

Crystal Violet is a dyestuff known to have toxic and carcinogenic effects and used in many industries. In this study, the use of fibers obtained from palm tree (Washingtonia filifera) as an adsorbent for the removal of Crystal Violet dyestuff from aqueous solutions by adsorption was investigated. The effects of parameters such as initial adsorbate concentration, adsorbent dose and pH on adsorption efficiency were researched. The highest removal efficiency is 95.55%; the maximum adsorption capacity is 85.91 mg/g. In the investigation of the pH effect on adsorption, it has been determined that the maximum adsorption capacity of the crystal violet dyestuff have been reached at pH 8. BET, SEM and EDS analysis of the adsorbent have been made. The BET surface area is 4.1484 m2/g; the average pore width is 6.8563 nm; the mean pore volume is 0.00413 cm3/g for mesopores and 0.00017 cm3/g for micropores. Stegmata structures, also called silica bodies, have been observed in SEM images. Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Dubinin-Raduskevich isotherms have been studied; the isotherm Temkin (R2 = 0.9692) which best describes shaking systems, Freundlich is the isotherm (R2 = 0.9643) that best describes the non-mixing stationary phase systems. It has been established that the equation that best describes the kinetic processes is the pseudo second order kinetic model.
