Evaluation of the sustainable design criteria on the interior design of hotels via user comments: Tasigo and H2hotel sample

Sustainable design can be defined as an economical and functional design concept, mentions producing and building easily by reducing negative effects on the environment and by enhancing user comfort to optimum level. According to this definition, sustainable design is a design approach that expresses the whole desirable guiding methods ecologically environmentally-responsible, economically profitable and socially thinking of user needs and comfort. Interior architecture/design is the practice area of creating aesthetic, functional and comfortable spaces by bringing together the environments that can best meet the needs of the users with the wishes and likes of the users. Interior architectural practices not only have a major place in taking decisions about interior space during the design and construction of a new building, but they also fundamentally contain an environmental approach by providing a new function and by preserving certain characteristics of building rather than removing current building. Therefore, interior architectural practices are in an important position that supports the social dimension of the sustainable design philosophy by taking interior decisions that meet the comfort and requirements of the user and also supports the environmental dimension by enabling reuse of spaces. The aim of this study is to examine the effect of sustainable design on the hotel interior design and evaluate it through user comments. In line with this aim, the criterias affecting the interior design of two hotels have LEED Gold certification are examined and content analysis method is used to show how these criteria reflected to the user comments. As a result of the study, the effect of sustainable design on the hotel interior design is evaluated via user comments.
