Abstract (EN)

The concept of sustainability continues to be a subject that attracts attention in almost every field today. While seeking solutions to increasing environmental problems, the discovery of the vernacular architecture becomes a reference source for the solutions. The main aim of this thesis is to reveal the mutual interaction between sustainable architecture and traditional and/or vernacular architecture. In this study, Iran's Vernacular Architecture is examined in the context of the design parameters of the sustainable architecture. The traditional regions of Iran have been examined and analyzed based on the findings of field research and academic studies. The climate and geographical characteristics of the regions were analyzed and the findings were examined in the context of sustainability. The traditional concept of architecture which is used in the study, is a concept that also includes vernacular architecture. However, vernacular architecture which is the subject of the thesis, has been used as an architecture that can survive from the past to nowaday. For this reason, it is appropriate to use the term traditional and/or vernacular architecture in the study. Document scanning, description, typological analysis and case analysis were completed using as the article's methods.
