CONTROL OF A PERMANENT MAGNET SYNCHRONOUS MOTOR WITHOUT POSITION SENSOR (Phd. Thesis) Şevki DEMİRBAŞ GAZI UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY September 2001 ABSTRACT In this thesis, torque and speed control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) has been implemented without using position and speed sensors. An extended Kalman filter (EKF) model has been developed for estimation of position and speed. The system is fully digital and operating as on-line. Since voltage information is obtained using reference voltage from current control loop, the requirements of additional voltage sensors are eliminated. Only current sensors are necessary to measure the currents. Developed algorithm has been simulated using C/C++ programming language, then implemented using TMS320F243 fixed point digital signal processor (DSP). Both simulation and experimental results show that proposed sensorless algorithm can be used in a wide speed range.
