IV SUMMARY PhD: Thesis OPTIMUM DESIGN OF CONTINUUM STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS Sedat SAVAŞ Fırat University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Civil Engineering Optimum design of arch dams catagorized as continuum structural systems has an impartant role due to being more complex and costly. Although, Geometry of arch dams generally have been taken as circular in the applicotions, so fer, more optimum solutions can be optained by using the function with multi-coeffients and high order. The volume of ICE fifth type arch dam is optimized under the static and dynamic loads by considering the cases of full and empty of rezervoir-dam in this study. Consequently, optained arch dam geometry in the thesis are more economical than results of previous studies in the literature. Key Words : continuum structural systems, optimum design, arch dams
