Examination of the 5th grade social studies learning outcomes in periodical children's publications

The purpose of this study is to examine the 5th Grade Social Studies course learning outcomes and to examine the relationship status with the monthly Bilim Çocuk and TRT Çocuk magazines. The reason for the selection of these journals is that they are magazines published by official institutions. The journal of Bilim Çocuk is a magazine which is prepared by the institution of TÜBİTAK for children. TRT Çocuk Magazine is a monthly magazine that publishes partners with TRT Çocuk channel which is the one of the popular children's channels. This study was conducted with the document analysis method which is one of the qualitative research models. The documents of the research are composed of all the issues published by Bilim Çocuk and TRT Çocuk magazine in 2017. The descriptive and context analyses techniques was used to analyze the data. As a result of the study, it was appointed that 33 learning outcomes in the 5th Grade Social Studies Curriculum learning area were related to the contents in the journals. Learning outcomes were found in magazines in several density. The contents related to the learning outcomes in Bilim Çocuk magazine were found 2 times in the Individual and Society field of learning. The contents related to the learning outcomes were appointed 36 times in the Culture and Heritage field of learning and these were found 7 times in the People Places and Environment field of learning. Learning outcomes were found 21 times in the Science Technology and Society field of learning. These were found 4 time in the production-consumption distribution field of learning and 11 times in the Global Links field of learning. When the contents and learning outcomes in the journal are related, it is seen that maximum learning outcome is related to the Culture and Heritage field learning which is related to the science of history. This is followed by the Science Technology Society field of learning. The least related content was Production Distribution Consumption and Individual and Community field of learning. The contents thought to be related to the learning outcomes in TRT Çocuk magazine were found 21 times in Individual and Society field of learning. These were found 72 times in the Culture and Heritage field of learning. Also, they were found 5 times in the People Places and Circles field of learning. These were found 14 times in the Production Distribution and Consumption field of learning. The learning outcomes were found 10 times in the Effective Citizenship field of learning. The learning outcomes were found 23 times in Global Links field of learning. When two journals are compared, a total of 165 learning outcome in TRT Çocuk magazine; a total of 81 learning outcome were found in Bilim Çocuk magazine.
