Abstract (EN)

In this study, idioms, one of the most important elements of the language, are discussed. In the study, idioms in the Turkish language of Turkey and idioms in the Syrian dialect, which is one of the dialects of Arabic, have been dealt with by the method of counter-analysis; and idioms in the Syrian dialect are compared with their Turkish equivalents in terms of semantic and formal aspects. Language is a living being that grows and develops day by day (Akar, 2010, p17). Therefore, Arabic, like other languages, has been subject to change due to political, geographical and religious reasons. For all that, although the Arabic dialects used today are classified under five or six categories, they may differ even within a country or a city. However, even though there are dozens of different dialects in Arab countries, these dialects have been the subject of very few studies. We witness the fact of not paying attention to the dialects of the language as much as the importance given to the standard language in Arabic, as we have encountered in almost all cultures and languages. In this context; in order to reveal the importance of dialects, introduce the richness of the Syrian dialect, and put forward the cultural interaction of the languages used in Syria and Turkey taking the geographical location into consideration; the idioms in the Turkish language of Turkey and the idioms in the Syrian dialect of Arabic have been dealt with by the counter-analysis method. Descriptive (scanning model) method was used in the research. In this context, the research is a quantitative and relational study aimed at examining the relationships between variables. The general purpose of the research is to study of the similarities and differences between the two languages by comparing the idioms in the Syrian dialect and the Turkish language of Turkey. This study, in which we will consider the expressions of the Turkish language of Turkey and the Syrian dialects by comparison, is of great importance in terms of learning and teaching Turkish and Syrian dialects by people who share the same geography. In addition, the study will make it easier for Syrian students studying Turkish to overcome the difficulties they may encounter. Also, examining the differences and similarities between the Turkish language of Turkey and the Arabic Syrian dialects in terms of idioms will contribute significantly to linguistic studies at the academic level due to the lack of sufficient work in this field yet. The fact that the idioms in the Syrian dialect and the idioms in Turkish are very similar to each other indicates that both languages are greatly influenced by each other. This study once again reveals how great is the impact of culture on language due to the cultural convergence that resulted from Turkey and Syria being under the same administration for a long time in the recent past.
