The evaluation of Syrian immigrant children under the Child Protection Law No.5395: Case of Hatay

Child Protection Law No. 5395 is a law regarding the protection of children of immigrants who have entered our country since 2011. Within the framework of this law, measures such as counseling, education, care, health and shelter are applied to children who have been neglected or abused. Hatay, which is one of the provinces with the highest number of immigrants, has also become a center for the practices within the scope of the said law. For this reason, our study will focus on the extent to which counseling, education, accommodation, care and health measures can be provided to immigrant children in Hatay Province. In this context, the applications made both in Turkey and in other provinces with a high immigrant population will be evaluated. It is planned to make suggestions about what can be done about the social adaptation of children in Hatay to the society and not to be a lost generation, and to make analyzes that can be used in field studies. In the general evaluation, it was concluded that the precautionary decisions applied to immigrant children within the scope of the Child Protection Law have a critical importance for immigrant children not to be a lost generation, to receive education and to achieve a high level of social cohesion with their families. It is thought that there is a need for new regulations specific to immigrant children and new social policies in the implementation of the law.
