Investigation of the relationship between just world belief and psychological well-being in Syrian immigrants: The sample of Hatay

Immigration causes individuals to leave the places they belong to and interact with a new environment which they are not accustomed to. This interaction might be multidimensional. Therefore, it can bring along various problems to be encountered. In this sense, immigrants could be in the middle of a complex network of problems. The focus of this study is to examine the relationship between the "just world belief" and "psychological well-being" of these individuals, taking into account the problems that Syrian immigrants are experiencing in psycho-social areas. The sample of the study derived of 150 literate Syrian immigrants over the age of 18 who are living in Antakya, Reyhanlı and Altınözü districts of Hatay province. Personal Information Form, Just World Belief Scale (JWBS) and Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWBS) were applied to the Syrian immigrants who volunteered to participate in this study. According to the findings of the research; Individuals who are older than fifty six have higher scores in just world belief. According to their educational status, it is seen that the participants who graduated from high school had lower scores in both personal and general just world belief. According to the marital status of the participants, it was determined that the psychological well-being of married individuals was higher than the other groups. As a result, it was observed that there was a high positive correlation between the psychological well-being of the participants and their personal and general just world beliefs.
