Relationships of Syrian Syriacs with state and government –till 1946

In this study the relationship of Syrian Syriacs with state and government has been analyzed. In this sense historical background of Syria has been mentioned generally and interactions of Syrian Syriacs with states' internal and international politics have been specifically highlighted. Syriacs defined as the oldest Christian community settled good relations with stated under of which they were under sway. Mostly, they had a tendency to live in peace though some rebellion movements they were involved in some periods. Different from other Chrian groups ( Armenians and Assyrians), Syriacs who had a strong faith in their religious beliefs did not target to found an independent state. Syriacs struggling with sectarian pressures of some Christian states like Roman and Byzantine suffered from The Crusades and Mongolian Invasion. However, Syriacs expressed that they lived in harmony with Islam and preferred Islam reign to Christian reign. When taken Syriacs' claims on genocide and increasing Syriac Diaspora efforts in 20. yy into consideration, the reasons lying behind these tendencies of Syriacs have gained importance. The main point of the study is policies of Western powers towards Christian minorities before The World War I. At this point, it can be said that The World War I. is the breaking point for Syriacs. They both emigrated from their motherland Anatolia and were ignored by Western powers that shaping Middle East. This made Syriacs disappointed and they wanted to live in an independent Syria with the effect of Nationalism movements in 19.yy. Therefore, politics of Western powers on Syria and Syriacs is the point of last chapter. Syriacs ignored in post war era had in great diaspora efforts after the war, so it was the aim of Syriacs to build an etnic identity based on root rather than a religion.
