In the example of Syrian university students: Receiving television news about Syrians

In the research, Phenomenology (Phenomenology), one of the qualitative research methods, was used to investigate the opinions of the students in order to receive the news of Ankara - Altındağ for 10 Syrian university students studying at Fırat University. The research has been handled in two dimensions. In the first dimension of the research, 3 priority criteria were determined for the participants in order to receive the news as a result of the Ankara Altındağ event. In the second dimension, 3 television channels broadcasting thematically were selected, adhering to Stuart Hall's coding decoding theory, by using the criterion sample in the selection of television news channels. Within the scope of the research, 'A Haber' - CNN Türk' and 'Halk TV' channels were included in the scope of the research, with the support of Hall's coding decoding theory and considering the broadcasting policy of news channels. In the study, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 students actively enrolled in Fırat University, taking into account the criterion of having Syrian students enrolled in Fırat University and the data were analyzed. As a result of the study, it was determined that Syrian university students read firstly the news as Opposition-Opposition, then Negotiated-Disputed reading and at least Sovereign-Dominant reading.
