Gregorian motif and its historical development in ornamental arts

During the research, it is mentioned about the history of the ornamental arts and the motifs used in ornamental arts. These motifs are divided into groups such as hatayi, penç, cloud, leaf, goncagül and gregorian. During the research it is told that the history, starting point, the origin of the gregorian motif-the subject the thesis- and where it is use..Gregorian motif was started to be used while drawing the struggle of animals before the islamic faith.lt appeared as the subject of a lot of legendary animals. lt was used instead of some components such as wing, tail, beak and paw. lt got different during the time by being stylized, it lost the animal appearence and it got the vegetable appearence much more. Because of this reason, lots of artisans and historians had different opinions about the origin of the gregorian motif. While one group claimed that the gregorian motif has vegetable origin and resembles the stages of peas? expansion, the other group claimed that the gregorian motif has animal origin and probably it has a vegetable appearence because of the alteration and growth from the beginning to today. However they strongly clarified that it has animal origin.During this study it is all mentioned about the the history, all kinds, drawing stages and using fields of the gregorian motif. It has lots of using fields and moreover; it is one of the most important components of those fields.lIllumination, calligraphy, miniature, bind(for book arts), stone workmanship, penwork, stained glass, wooden and the art of engraving(for architecture), çini and ceramic, rug and cloth, metal goods,..etc. can be given as examples.
