Abstract (EN)

Purpose: The aim of this study was to report clinical results of suturless scleral intraocular lens (iol) fixation. Methods: Twenty one eyes of 20 patients who underwent suturless scleral iol fixation surgery between 2017 to 2018 were included in this retrospective study. The patients were divided into two groups: suturless scleral iol fixation group and pars plana vitrectomy with suturless scleral fixation. Best corrected visual acuity, corneal astigmatism and postoperative complications like intravitreal hemorrhage, cystoid macular edema, high intraocular pressure, intraocular lens dislocation, retinal detachment and endophthalmitis were analyzed and compared between the groups. Results: The BCVA was increased in all eyes. Mean preoperative BCVA was logMAR 1.67±0.18 (3.10-0.22) and mean final BCVA was logMAR 0.47±0.08 (1.60-0.00) (p<0.003). There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups regarding the best corrected visual acuity (p değeri=0.061) and corneal astigmatism (p değeri=0,262) outcomes. Postoperative complication rates were also similar between two groups. Three patients (14%) required iol relocation surgery due to intraocular lens dislocation and one patient (4%) had pars plana vitrectomy for intravitreal hemorrhage. We detected high intraocular pressure in three cases (14%) and cystoid macular edema in four cases (19%). Postoperative endophtalmitis and retinal detachment was not observed. Conclusions: Suturless scleral iol fixation is a new surgical method which has comparable results with conventional scleral fixation procedure and it is a less invasive procedure with no complications related to scleral sutures.
