Özet (EN)
Diabetes mellitus is characterized by absolute or relative insufficiencies in insulin secretion and/or its action associated with chronic hyperglycemia and disturbed various metabolism leads to inflammation. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the gene modulation and serum inflammatory marker alterations in type 2 diabetes individuals (n=20) as compared to their age-gender matched healthy control (n=20). In the present cross-sectional study, the fasting venom blood was collected in plain and EDTA containing vacutainer which was subjected for various biochemical estimation such as glucose levels and inflammatory markers, i.e. tumour necrosis factor - alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6). The expression profiles of above inflammatory markers along with their transcription factor, i.e. nuclear factor-κβ (NFkβ) were also studied. In the diabetes group, the body mass index and waist-hip ratio was found to be non-significant increased as compared to healthy control. In T2DM patient, serum glucose, TNF-α (P≤0.001) and IL-6 (P≤0.001) were increased as compared to the healthy control, respectively. The expression profile of TNF-α and IL-6 genes (P≤0.01) along with their regulatory gene NFκB (P≤0.05) were found to be upregulated in the diabetes condition as compared to healthy control. Though, the diabetes patients are on allopathic medications, the biochemical parameters and gene modulation were found to be altered as compared to healthy controls. These drugs are known for their target action and some adverse side effects also, when recommended for long term use. So, there is an urgent need for the good drug management, which will have low or no side effects on the body. Keywords: Type 2 diabetes mellitus, Inflammatory markers, Hyperglycemia
