The role of leader in team work (investigation of associate of school managers perceptions towards the role of the leader in team work)

Nowadays, teams and team work are becoming widespread in management. One of the most significant components of team work is group leader. It is possible for group members with a leader who is supporting the members of the group, organizing them, and increasing their ties to the group to complete their roles effectively. In a school environment, it is possible to accept the principle and his/her assistants as a group. From this perspective, the principle can be regarded as the group leader in the educational institutions. Therefore, it is necessary for principles to take on the roles of the leader, which is the necessity of team work. This thesis aimed at investigating the role of team leader in regard of educational organizations. To this aim, based on a sample consisted of associates of school managers, the performance level of school managers? in terms of leadership roles which are essential for teamwork is examined according to the perceptions of the associates of school managers. According to the results, it is revealed that the associates of school managers perceived the leader?s role in teamwork as very important; evaluated their school managers sufficient as a team leader in performing the related leadership roles. Nevertheless, results showed that the school managers could not respond to the expectations of their associates as a team leader.
