Abstract (EN)

This research is a descriptive study which aims to examine the motivation levels of the athletes engaged in team and individual sports. For this purpose, the effects of variables such as gender, professional time spent with sports, age, education level, income level, branch status were also examined in the motivation of athletes. The universe of the research was formed by randomly selected 512 professional athletes who continue their sport life in Gaziantep. The Sport Motivation Scale, which was adapted to Turkish by Erdem in 2008, was used. SPSS 22.0 statistical package program was used for statistical analysis of research data. First of all, the data were evaluated for normal distribution and since the data showed normal distribution (Skewness-Kurtosis values -2, +2 in the range), parametric tests were applied. One-way ANOVA analysis was used to compare multiple groups and independent sample t-test was used to compare the binary groups. The level of significance was taken as p <0.05. As a result of the analysis; individual and team athletes generally have a high level of motivation, in terms of internal motivation to experience stimulus team athletes have a higher motivation, males are more interested in the external motivation factors and are more identified with the sporting athletes who are more familiar than married sportsmen In terms of age and sports year, it was concluded that higher groups had higher motivation, lower income level had higher motivation levels and national athletes had higher motivation.
