Abstract (EN)

This descriptive study, designed to investigate the effect of team cohesion on motivation, was conducted with 250 student athletes studying at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University. A personal information form prepared by the researcher was used to determine the demographic characteristics of the participants. In order to measure the team cohesion levels of the participants, the Youth Athlete Team Cohesion Scale, developed by Eys, Loughead, Bray, and Carron (2009) and adapted into Turkish by Sezer and Kocaekşi, was used. The Sport-Specific Achievement Motivation Scale, adapted into Turkish by Tiryaki and Gödelek, was used to determine the success motivation levels of the participants. Pearson correlation, one-way analysis of variance, post hoc analysis and t-test were used in the analysis of the data. According to the analysis results of the obtained data, it is observed that the participants' general and sub-dimensions of sport-specific success motivation mean scores are high. It is also observed that the total and sub-dimensions of the team cohesion scale mean scores are high. At the same time, it is observed that the correlation relationship between the participants' team cohesion and sport-specific success motivation levels is statistically significant and positive (p<0.05). As a result, it can be said that high team cohesion positively affects achievement motivation and there is a direct proportion between the two components.
