Abstract (EN)

The impact of the press on the masses is a much-disscussed subject in the studies of communication field. The dominant discourse of the texts of news, the function of an ideological device to reproduce and within the frame of the impact on the way of thinking of the masses, a lot of model has been developed. Especially in the First World War, the press's influence on the masses of the propaganda power, the power or limitations of the press at the point of mass orientation, a lot of study has been done on the power of press. Therefore, the positioning of the press in Lynch acts becomes an important problem. This study discusses the conjuncture associated with the Second World War with the positioning on the national and foreign politics by taking a process of important developments in terms of the history of democracy and aims to reveal the influence of the period's newspapers on the Tan Raid together with social, political, economic and social - psychological reasons. In this context, the positioning of the press on the Tan Raid was assessed through the theories that social-psychology used to explain lynch actions. In addition, in the study, a Tan Raid action that is considered as a politically based act of physical violence or political lynching, the similarities between the act of the press on masses and the practices which occure in the lynch actions have been analysed with qualitative structuralist discourse analysis. As a result of the study it was determined that, in the case of Tan Raid as a political lynch action, the press has been used by the political power and it improved the similar discourses with the practices of lynch actions.
