Abstract (EN)

In this study, comprehensive phytochemical studies and screening of biological activities of Tanacetum armenum (DC) Sch. Bip have been carried out. For this purpose the essential oil (TAUY), n-hexane, methanol and water extracts (TAHE, TAME, TASE) and the fatty acids were obtained. The chemical compositions of TAUY and fatty acids were investigated by GC-FID/MS technique. Camphor (48.3%), borneol (13.6%) and γ-eudesmol (13.5%) were determined as major volatile compounds. Palmitic (43.8%), nonadecanoic (18.3%), linoleic (10.9%), arachidic (7.8%) and linolenic (4.8%) acids were found in the fatty acids profile. Antioxidant activities evaluated by TEAC, DPPH, β-Carotene bleaching and ORAC tests. TAME, TASE and TAUY demonstrated significant antioxidant activity. The compounds responsible for antioxidant activity were determined by bioautography method in combination with LC MS/MS and GC/MS as 3,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid, luteolin glucoside, 5-dicaffeoylquinic acid, icariside 5b, luteolin, camphor, 1,8-cineole and borneol. The highest values of total phenol and flavonoid contents of the extracts were found in TASE and TAME. In order to determine the anti-diabetic potential the inhibitory effect on α-amylase enzyme was tested. Highest inhibition values were found in TAME (Inh 33.92%) and TAHE (Inh 33.84%). As a result of antimicrobial studies, it has been determined that TAUY is effective against B. subtilis, K. aerogenes and Candida species. TAHE has been found to be the most effective extract showing activity against Gram (+) and (-) strains. Although, it has been observed that the extracts are weakly effective against the strains compared to the standard antimicrobial agents.
