Abstract (EN)
Women's rights are among the most important issues that have not lost their popularity in the last centuries. The social and legal status of the woman occupied an important place in the agenda of the state and society in the Ottoman Empire with the Tanzimat. In this context, the position of women in society has begun to be questioned and a solution has been sought for the social problems of women and girls. It was raised in this context that the woman, who is the architect of the family who held the society together, could have a say in social and economic life. In this research, the debates on the personal rights and responsibilities of women will be examined. For this reason, firstly general information about Tanzimat period is given. In this period, regulations concerning the rights of women are included. In the study, the rights and responsibilities of women in marriages are also included in Islamic Law in order to better understand the issue.
