Abstract (EN)

In this study, the reconstruction movements in the Sanjak of Antalya in the period from the announcement of the Tanzimat Edict to the establishment of the Republic of Turkey were examined. between 1839 and 1923, a total of 135 works of art were built in 23 different types of buildings in Antalya Decca. Of these buildings, 31 mosques, 7 churches, 4 schools, 3 inns, 1 lighthouse, 1 warehouse, 1 factory, 1 customs building, 1 bathhouse, 1 radio telegraph station and 1 clock tower, 52 of which have survived to the present day. 29 schools, 9 mosques, 8 telegraph offices, 7 government houses, 6 churches, 5 prisons, 4 police stations, 3 hospitals, 2 customs offices, 2 quarantines, 2 bridges, 2 port offices, 1 administrative building, 1 pier, 1 gendarmerie office and 1 madrasa, 83 structures have not reached our days. Based on this, when we compare the types and numbers of buildings, it dec seen that the new types of buildings brought by Tanzimat architecture were applied together with the traditional buildings. When we look at the number of structures built, it is seen that mosques are the majority. There are three types of plans in mosques; deeply planned, square planned and hexagonal planned pavilion masjid style. The fact that mosques are built so intensively shows that traditional practices continue in line with needs regardless of Tanzimat. In terms of number, mosques are followed by schools. However, most of the schools built have not survived to the present day. The intensity seen in the school buildings can be considered as a reflection of the modernization efforts of the Ottoman education system to the right. In addition to mosques and schools, church buildings are also busy. All the churches built have a rectangular plan and a single nave. The increase in church buildings can be explained by the rights granted to non-Muslims by the Tanzimat Edict of 1839 and the Reform Edict of 1856. When we look at the materials and techniques of the structures built in Antalya after Tanzimat, it can be seen that local material is used. The categories of structures are not clear. This situation shows that the construction was carried out by the public. When we look at the decoration program of structures, we usually encounter simple structures. In particular, no decorative elements are visible in public buildings. We can say that the decoration is mostly in mosques. Although these decorations in question usually contain elements of the classical period; in accordance with the fashion of the period, motifs such as flowers, clocks, oil lamps and curtains coming out of the vase were included, especially in pencil-like decorations. In addition to the construction activities, various repairs were also made within the dates that constitute the boundaries of our study. It is also worth noting that new neighborhoods have been established in the city due to population growth. As a result, the influence of Tanzimat has been limited in the Sanjak of Antalya due to the distance of Antalya from the capital, the geographical location of the city and the difficulty of transportation created by the shapes of the earth. Accordingly, traditional practices in planning, materials and decoration have continued. Keywords: Antalya, Zoning, Construction, Repair, Tanzimat Edict.
