Changes of meaning to Tarama Sözlüğü and Türkçe Sözlük

In this study, diachronic meaning changes occurring in common vocabulary of Scanning Dictionary and Turkish Dictionary were examined. In Introduction, in which the theory part of the study was handled, it was examined that the language, the basic function of language communication, its relationship between thought, culture and society; terms of diachronic and synchronic, concept and conceptual field, conceptualization, semantic markers, emotion value, central meaning, connotation, effective relationships in meaning changes, context, simile, transshipment (metaphor, metonymy), polysemy, homonymy, synonymy, definition, classification, causes of meaning changes. Causes of meaning changes are divided into two groups including language-internal reasons and language-external reasons. These are synonymy, context; processes that due to changes in thought, change of user area of the word, change of communication and manufacturing method of society, changes in the functions of the objects, naming newly learned objects or situations. In this section, concept of the meaning change and classifications so far has been discussed in detail also. In analysis section of the thesis, words occurred meaning change according to Scanning Dictionary and Turkish Dictionary has been approached individually. Words have been classified taking into account the principles described in the Introduction. Detected types of meaning change are semantic transfer, semantic restriction, semantic extension, melioration, pejoration. Meaning fields of words are expanding with meanings depending on the metaphorication, termication, argot, taboo, ellipsis, synecdoche. Words defined in meaning change have been introduced en masse in the index at the end of study. In the index, it has been indicated what type of meaning change in words.
