Using cooperative learning method in history teaching

11 ABSTRACT In this thesis, the cooperative learning method and the traditional learning method on history teaching are comperated and also, the effects of the cooperative learning on the students achievement are investigated. The application of this thesis was done on the second term of 2002-2003 on 44-student of the 9th class in Keçiören Anadolu Teknik Lise and Endüstri Meslek Lisesi. These students are in two different classes but their history teacher is same who is investigater. Morever, pre-test and post-test were used to control the answers. The concept of the application is the first chapter of the Foundation age of the Ottoman Empire (up to the age of Fatih Sultan Mehmet). This concept expressed to the experiment group using the cooperative learning method and it is expressed to control group using the traditional learning method. Before the teaching concepts, the pre-test was applied and after the teaching this the post-test also was applied. Using SPSS programme, the students answers werw analyzied by indipendent t-test. As a results of this analyzis, it is seen that, the experiment group who are learned the concept in history by the cooperative learning method is more successful than the control group learned by the traditional learning method.
