Turkish Straits problem in historical perspective (1833-1936)

Tukish Straits Problem (1833-1936) is a very critical and strategically important subject in both period, Ottoman State and Turkish Republic. In both periods, sovereignity in Turkis Straits means soveregnity for these states too. The thesis named as ?Turkish Straits Problem in Historical Perspective?, contains historical and political analysis of the subject and criticising of past, present and future in the light of alternative solutions..In the first part of our thesis, first of all geographical and political meanings of strait are explained. Causes and results of becoming as a part of international law, Turkish Straits have been tried to perform historically.In the second part of our thesis, straits in Ottoman period that straits started to call Turkish Straits is investigated. Addition to these facts, some studies about straits are criticising and some problems about this subject are studied. Moreover in the light of archieves, this era is evaluated.In the third part, entering and the end of Ottoman State that could be evaluated one of the turning points of the thesis in to WWI have been studied in detail using with periodicals and archieves.In the fourth and final part of our thesis, from the establishing of Republic of Turkey to the present, eras about Turkish Straits could be evaluated. Although Turkish Straits is very important for sovereignty of and Turkish foreign policy especially in present, some alternative solutions and future of the straits have been analysed historically.
