Strengthening methods in historical mosque domes examination with experimental methods

Özet (EN)

Domes, which are generally demi globe shaped structures and are used for clothing the upper side of the architectural structures, have served many societies during the history. Many societies have built domes since pre historic ages to present time. Thus the forms of dome have showed variation and improvement to over time meet the needs of the people. Another issue about domes that they have detriments on their structures, which are derived from three sources: structural, environmental and humanistic. In the first chapter of this study, it has been told about the development of domes throughout the history, existing dome shapes, load transfer principle of domes and transition element of domes. Besides, damages occurred at domes and repair and strengthening methods for these damages have been mentioned. In the second chapter, a literatüre review has been made. In the third chapter the features of experiment materials, stages of construction of experimental set up and destruction machine have been spoken of. Lastly, the phases of preparation of samples of nine domes have been told. For the sizes of domes, the most optimum forms of domes have been determined by examining the shape of domes which have been existing since the Classical Ottoman Era to present day. In addition to this, FRP, steel ring, clamp, repair mortar and horasan mortar are used, at the same time, with examined the existing applications today, for repairment and strenghting of domes. In the fourth chapter, results of samples of dome experiments and analyzes, which has been done, have been explained. In the fifth chapter guideline includes the conclusions and recommendations to be drawn from this study. At this study, existing dome damages have been repaired by using different strenghting methods on different areas of the dome and as a result of this, maximum load and displacement values have been analyzed. In the four phase, results of experiment samples have been spoken of. This study of thesis, from the perspective of course and methods that have been tracked, aims to be a guiding source and contribute to selection of proper reinforcement and repairment methods to protect and implement to historical mosques' dome structures. There is not much work in the literature related to this subject and because of this, with this study, it is foreseen to eliminate a great deficiency in this field.
