Investigation of historically important schools in terms of space perception: The case of Antalya Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School

Today, historical buildings have an important value in spatial context. In this respect, it can be said that it is necessary to reveal the perception situations of historical places. In this context, the aim of the study is to examine the Antalya Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, which is a structure of historically important building, in terms of spatial perception. For this purpose, eight hypotheses were formed and their accuracy has been investigated. The main material of the study consists of international and national sources and survey questions on the subject. In the study, SPSS, AutoCAD, 3D Max and Photoshop CS3 programs were used to evaluate the data in the research. Antalya Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School constitutes the study material of the thesis. Within the scope of the method of the study, a two-stage questionnaire was applied to the participants who graduated from this high school. In the first stage, a questionnaire was applied to 114 graduates in order to evaluate the current façade perception of the building complex. In the light of the data obtained from this survey, three different alternative facade modeling were prepared. In the second stage, a questionnaire was applied to 105 graduates in order to evaluate the prepared facade design alternatives. The data obtained from the questionnaires were analyzed with the SPSS program. As a result, it was determined that the spatial perception levels of historical buildings differ depending on the user characteristics. According to the findings obtained in this context, it is possible to say that it is necessary to evaluate both the use and protection of such structures within the framework of some criteria. In addition, it can be stated that the buildings evaluated with this approach, which have the potential of urban image, can benefit the city in many ways.
