The re-usage of the historical buildings: The case of Izmir Sümerbank Printed Cloth Plant Factory campus

Because historical places are symbol of social, cultural, historical and architectural values, it brings a thought of that historical structures has to be protected. Historical places to be transfered to new generation and to have cultural continuosness one of the protection disciplines basic action field is refunctioning. Refunctioning the historical places is providing new usage possibilities that are aliasing localical and structural particularity to the structures that are out of usage. With refunctioning protection discipline, historical values that set up interaction with society`s past become alive.In the past, historical places, that are designed to against different functions, because of changing life standarts and needs they are not being used and in the time because of neglection and negative environment conditions they are convicted to be vanished. The new function that will be assigned has to be determined with being loyal to architectural, social and cultural worthy and enviromental factors of the structure. The structures that are refunctioned and became positive influence to city`s silhouette are also prestige places to the cities.In this project, Izmir Sumerbank Printed-Cloth Plant Factory Campuses is analyzed, which is a historical industrial field for refunctioning. The premises is valuable because it is a projection of Republic period`s modernist approach and it offers a nes life style to the public over an organization of a pysical environment. Subsequent to closing of Izmir Sumerbank Printed-Cloth Plant Factory Campuses the land that has not being used and became wreckage since 2000, part of it is organized for education function and has lost its premises entirety in 2008.Within the thesis first of all, Izmir Sumerbank Print Industrial Premises` formation and evolution`s duration is examined, after that to bring to life to the premises that has historical, cultural, social and architectural worthy in the engram of the city, new function suggestion is brought. During the fixation of the new function, to determinate the premises` change from their original condition to today`s time, the archivie files that are in different places are reached and field work has done in the premises.
