Impacts of tourism on relation between design and conservation in the historical sites: the case of bodrum

Historical urban settlements which inherit from various civilization, nowadays come face to face with the danger of disappear. The importance of historical buildings which success in standing from past time to present time, increase with the appearence of the conservation concept. Historical settlements change with the life. We come face to face with the changes in the socio-cultural structure, physical structure and economical structure. The change of function which direct to tourism in the historical settlement, destroy the historical identity and change the settlement. The result of this, plan and facades of historical buildings changed and changing of the function which happen with the addition of buildings is being done. By the effects of these, it can be observed the changes and transformation of variation in its use. It necessiate sensitive working in order to gain these historical urban settlements, transfer this process as a cultural value to next generations and not to change the orjinality of historical settlements. A lot of changes can be observed in historical settlements with the tourism. In the content of this study, becoming integrated of historical settlements with the tourism input, is given an example of revitalising of historical urban settlements in some of European cities. With in the scope of these, it is taken charge of ?Kumbahçe Area? that is the part of the historical urban places in Bodrum which face to be disappeared and the residental changes with tourism, is studied to estabilish the physical problems and is suggested for gaining this historical urban place for the city.
