Abstract (EN)

In this study, it is focused on the use of virtual reality, one of the Industry 4.0 concepts, in the field of protection of the historical environment. Charters prepared in the aforementioned area encouraging the use of modern technology are discussed in this context. Then, the approaches to the use of virtual reality in the preservation of the historical environment were examined and evaluated. In the study, it is aimed to introduce the historical environment with virtual reality and to reveal the change of this environment in the process. It is aimed to create awareness of the historical environment in the society, to interpret the historical environment and to develop conservation behaviors. For this purpose, it was focused on the building blocks numbered 238 and 239 on Anafartalar Street in İzmir Kemeraltı Bazaar and Khans Area. The historical method was used in the archival study. Visualization and presentation methods were used in the three-dimensional modeling and its animation with virtual reality. The created virtual reality work has been opened via the cloud. As a result, the focus study on the presentation of the historical environment with virtual reality was evaluated within the scope of the interpretation and presentation principles of the ICOMOS Charter on the Interpretation and Presentation of Cultural Heritage Sites, and suggestions were developed for the presentation of the historical environment with virtual reality. The use of virtual reality in this field, with its improvable technological infrastructure, is a flexible method that offers efficient, time and place-independent access.
