Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is explain and examine what students feel, think and how theyconstruct their understanding while learning social studies by discovery learning at historicalplaces. This study consist of three parts:a) To chose historical place for doing the research: Alsancak Train Station, TCDDRailway Museum and Atatürk?s Special Carriage were choosen. The researcher took activelyparts in the process of foundation of TCDD Railway Museum.b) To prepare end examine educational materials which are suitable for thediscovery learning: Educational materials were prapered and then piloted with some students.c) Make a research: Ufuk Primery School 7. grades were participated theresearch for the time of two months.Qualitative research methods were used to ansver research questions The researchmethods are; interview, focus group interview, video end voice records, observation,participle observation, students works and, schools documans,At the end of the study; it had been observation that what ever the pupils? academicalssuccess on social studies, they had joined the activity voluntary. It appeared that, the pupilshad constructed the information by sensorly also the girl pupils had enjoyed differentactivities than the boy pupils. The study had supplied to introduce the pupils who had studiedas junior social scientists in historical places with historical evidences.
