The position and importance of mandolin in our country's music education in the historical process and its usability as a musical instrument at schools

This study was carried out to determine the position and importance of mandolin usage in our country?s music education, and to find out the usability of mandolin in current music education as a musical instrument at schools.In this study, Qualitative Research Method was used in order to gather data, and data related to the subproblem were collected via interviews carried out with 32 music educators who currently use a mandolin. Besides it was tried to explain the acqusition of mandolin and mandolin?s family to the present time?s music education. The collected data was analysed by Statistical Methods.In the end of the study, it is determined that mandolin, which had been used by the music educators in the our country?s music education especially after the Republican Era as a pilot instrument, was replaced with other school instruments due to tune problems and cost.Moreover, it is concluded that reviving the utilization of mandolin in current music education shall be more effective along with other instruments of mandolin family.Key Words: Mandolin, Mandolin Family, School Instruments, Instrument Training, Mandolin Training, Music Education.
