The politics of resistance within contemporary art, as seen through the work of Taryn Simon

This dissertation abstract is intended as an introduction to the conceptually multi-layered artworks of Taryn Simon. The dissertation examines this multi-layered nature and network of references within Simon's artwork in relation to the concepts of diverse theorists. If one considers the scope of the practice of an artist such as Simon, there is no doubt that this study can only be a modest introduction to the large inventory of images and complex structure of semiotic layers within her work.
