Abstract (EN)
Numerous factors greatly influence individual's satisfaction with their housing. These factors can vary significantly among people and may even change over-time on a personal level. Subjective perceptions are crucial when studying residential satisfaction. It is vital to design living spaces that can adapt to the evolving desires and needs of individuals to ensure their contentment. In the past, housing primarily focused on fulfilling subjective requirements, but with the rise of industrialization, it shifted towards being treated as a commodity. Some scholars propose that exploring traditional built environments and leveraging the knowledge gained from such studies can be beneficial for modern housing production. Many research studies investigate user participation by observing the physical surroundings, and one noteworthy contribution in this field is Habraken's work. Habraken aimed to enhance users' satisfaction in housing by developing The 'Support System' based on his analysis of Dutch houses. However, traditional house plans in Türkiye exhibit resemblances on the morphological arrangements, albeit with distinct differences. A unique feature of traditional houses in Türkiye is their versatility in serving multiple functions within a unique arrangements of sectors. These sectors, possess the potential to accommodate various functions at different times. By acknowledging these distinctions, the design tools proposed in the study, although these days multi use is quite rare, can have greater potential and assist in achieving higher levels of users' satisfaction by using sectors as a design tool. The design tool is tested by interviewing some of TOKI's residents. viii Traditional architecture inherently encompasses a sustainability aspect due to its ability to adapt to change. By drawing inspiration from traditional environments, built environments that contribute to sustainable design can be created. Traditional houses in Türkiye, which demonstrated unique arrangements of sectors, are believed to provide opportunities for designing tools that remain adaptable to ongoing changes over-time.
