Researching the repetition concept of design principles and performing on ceramic wall panels

Design elements and principles are fundamentals of education of fine arts. Concept of design has two dimentions; abstract and physical. Besides being a process created in mind, also means the object created at the end of the process.Some fundamental elements and principles are needed to create a design. Desing principles are regulative principles which coordinate relations between design objects. In the scope of this thesis, the design objects that have been researched are point, line, stain, figure-format-form, texture, light, colour, value, direction and place. Desing principles are repetition, rhythm, suitability, contrast, hierarchy, sovereignty, balance and unity. Repetition is using an element more than once in a certain order. An element's state in which it stays same without any change or with small differences are also repetition. Likewise similarities of the elements create a perception of repetition. Repetition is grouped under four headings: Complete repetition, repetition, variable repetition, multiple repetition. Complete repetition is reappearances of a unit with same features, in the same direction and equal interval. Complete repetition is a necessity at industrial area. Repetition is reappearances of a unit with the same features but different directions or intervals. A unit may be consisted of occur with one or several pieces. Variable repetition consist of units which has differences that can only be seen by a careful examination. Units' direction and interval can be different. It is the most encountered kind of in the nature. Multiple repetition consist of reappearance of units with the same direction and equal intervals. Mankind could have started producing ceramic productions after taking fire in control and continued the production without a stop. In the scope of the thesis researches have been made on repetition concept in are pointed industrial and artistic ceramics and presents some examples of existing studies. In the application section, products, about the subject, are produced by modern and traditional methods and placed to a location and exhibited. By the examination of the studies about the subject, domestic and foreign works and applications that can be examples, of the subject are analysed. Research on the importance and place of mentioned elements and principles in ceramic art will be an important reference fort he people who has interest in the area. The ceramic products which have been installed and exhibited will contribute to the development of the visual and aesthetical perception of the audience.
