Conventional basic measurement devices such as a callipersor a micrometer are used for simple geometrical measurements; for example a diameter, a length or a width. But, these tools can?t be employed for the measurement of complex parts. They also can?t compare the measurement result with CAD data. In addition, they can be affected easily by operator errors.The problems, mentioned above, can be solved with using of Coordinate Measuring Machine(CMM). But this method has some obstacles, too. Especially providing of a well conditioned testing environment, carrying of big parts to table and mounting of them are the difficulties of CMMs. The subject of this thesis, that is the Articulated Arms, is generated because of these problems. Besides, by the applications of these arms, well positioning, abstracting from environmental conditions and referencing are important. The experience and skill of the operator have an additional importance, too.Due to the important advantages of articulated arms, their usage has become widespread in the machine manufacturing field. In the recent years, the designer firms of these arms are developing new features which make them more popular. Because of the important conclusions and the continuous development of our country?s machine manufacturing sector, the researching of articulated arms has been selected as the subject.The aim of this thesis has been explained, above. The phases of this work are planned and shown, below.1)Investigation of working principles of articulated arm CMMs2)The researching of the usage of these machines and making of measurement applications3)Determining of the differences between these devices and conventional CMMs and Laser Trackers4)Selecting of an articulated arm and collecting the data which are necessary for the designing of their mechanical elements5)Determining of their movements and their limits6)Generating of kinematical matrices and equations7)Designing of an interface and so, getting of measurement results after giving data values as an input8)Evaluating of all resultsAfter working which has been made according to the plan, above, for the rising of our country?s industrial exportation, these articulated arms have to be employed widely. Besides, in the future, new software and manufacturing features can be added to their designs.
