Roughness of road causes vibrations in vehicles. These vibrations negatively affect cruise comfort and human health. In order to eliminate these negative effects suspension systems are used in vehicles. With technological developments, comfort expectations have been increasing. Therefore, improving suspension systems in vehicles is one of the researches have been continued in order to increase comfort level. There are three suspension systems that are used to reduce vibrations passive, active and semi active. Active suspension system is the most effective system with regard to vibration damping. However semi active system is mostly preferred because semi active suspension system shows close performance to active system with regard to vibration damping and consume less energy than active suspension system. In this study, vehicle is modeled with seven degree of freedom full vehicle and MR (Magnetorheological) damper used in semi active control. Modified bouc wen model is used to model of MR damper. Full vehicle model, first modeled as passive suspension system and after the system remodeled as semi active system by replacing passive damper by MR damper. Uncontrolled MR damper passive damper are compared. We obtained that the MR system is safe. After the system is modeled with MR damper is first controlled by fuzzy logic controller and later by self tuning fuzzy logic controller. Modeling and simulations are done in MATLAB-Simulink software. Simulation results present the performance of semi active system on reducing the vibrations in vehicles.
