Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted to investigate the efficacy of amniotic fluid on experimental corneal eptelial defects in the cornea. Fourteen New Zealand rabbits were used in the study. After local anesthesia with general anesthesia, a 3 mm diameter epithelial defect was formed with trepan in the center of the cornea. The rabbits were randomly divided into two groups. Topical amniotic fluid was applied in the group I of rabbits, when saline was dropped in the group II of rabbits. Topical drops were dropped 3 drops three times a day for 20 days. Clinical examinations were performed on the 7th, 15th and 20th days and their photographs were taken. At the end 20th day, rabbits were decapitated and histopathological examination was performed. At the end of the clinical examinations, break time of tear, corneal vascularizasyon, corneal opacity and findings obtained from the result of fluroscein and rose bengal painting, were better in the amniotic fluid applied group. Histopathological examinations showed that there was a difference between the groups in terms of inflammatory cell infiltration and new vessel formation. As a result, it has been concluded that amniotic fluid was effective in the corneal epithelial defects and therefore it may be benefical to use it in addition to medical or operative treatment.
