Research of laying hens manure wastes and suggesting a suitable treatment system

ABSTRACT In this study, the disposal of manure wastes using biogas technology based on anaerobic digestion generated in hens farm was investigated. The feasibility of the system was also evaluated. In Turkey, Çorum City has a big production potential for the waste manure from hens farm and works on disposal of this waste. Due to the high potential, a pilot plant for a farm was designed for manure disposal and biogas production together. For this purpose, nine sections were composed as below; In the first section; the importance of biogas system for Turkey and objective of the study were explained briefly. In the second section, the main concepts such as properties and composition of biogas, advantages and disadvantages of the system, comparison of biogas system and compost technology, steps of biogas production and main parameters affecting biogas production of biogas technology were explained in detailed. In the third section, the biogas plants both in the world and Turkey were explained briefly. In the fourth section, the small and large scale bio-reactor types were evaluated in detailed and a small scale anaerobic digester was considered as the most appropriate digester for the pilot farm according to bio-reactor types. In the fifth section, the operating and construction features of biogas plants were evaluated such as heating and mixing systems, determination of volume of digester and gas holder, calculation of daily gas production etc. In the sixth section, the value of gas and fertilizer exposed from the system was explained. The feasibility of the slurry for the agricultural applications was also evaluated. In the seventh section, poultry-houses, required equipments and construction applications etc. in hens breeding and properties of animal wastes were explained briefly. In the eighth section, hens manure wastes produced in Çorum City were evaluated and the proposed biogas pilot plant was designed for a hens breeding farm on Ankara highway. In the last section, the results obtained in this study were evaluated and summarized. The drawings of plan and section of proposed biogas pilot plant were added as an appendix.
