Abstract (EN)
The aim of this research is to analyze the international competitiveness of enterprises operating in the medical device sector according to The Five Power models of Porter (2000), one of the competition models. The universe of research consists of medical device manufacturers and sellers operating in Istanbul. Semi- structured interviews were conducted with 12 companies that responded positively to their request for a meeting. Data from the interviews were analyzed using content analysis and descriptive analysis technique. According to the analysis, a total of eighteen categories were obtained under five themes. According to the results obtained in the study, according to the dimensions of the five Power models of enterprises; competitors in the sector (existing competitors) are low in terms of domestic competitors, competition is high in terms of foreign competitors, and industry suppliers are generally strong in the foreign supplier network. It has been concluded that substitution is excessive in the sector and this exacerbates competition, that the excessive bargaining power of buyers forces businesses in terms of prices, and that businesses that will enter the sector will exacerbate competition. According to the dimensions of the five Power models, it was analyzed that competition in the medical device sector was fierce in domestic and foreign markets, especially in foreign markets, the competition intensity was higher.
