Influence of single and twin-row plantings on yield and lint quality of cotton vari̇eti̇es

This study was conducted to determine the influence of single and twin row planting patterns on yield, yield components and lint quality of cotton cultivars and the experiment was planted at Doğu Akdeniz Agricultural Research Institute in 2022. The experimental design was a split-plot of a randomized complete block replicated four times. Whole plots were either a single-row or twin-row planting configuration. Sub-plots were cotton cultivars. Row configuration had significant impact on seed index, number of boll per plant, seedcotton weight per boll anf fiber uniformity. Significant results were obtained among cotton cultivars not between row congigurations. Single and twin row configurations produced equal yields. No differences in lint qualty except fiber uniformity were observed between single-row and twin-row plantings. Twin row planting as an alternative planting configuration did not produce negative effects on lint quality, especially important ones i.e. length, fineness and strength. Further studies would be needed to make definite recommendations for twin row planting under region production conditions and to make possible the transition to twin-row cotton production
