Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to analyze journalism activities and reflections of the press on social life and education in the Single Party Period. The articles written in Akşam Newspaper by Vala Nurettin were analyzed within the scope of this study. The periodical reflecting the social, political, and cultural dynamics during her journalism career has mainly focused on the policies and problems related to education, which contribute to the modernization process of society. In the study, it was evaluated how Akşam Newspaper articles reflected Vala Nurettin's comments about education reforms and social life transformation. The contribution of the journalist to the process of public awareness and modernization in line with the development goals of the early years of the Republic came into prominence in the examinations. Her thoughts on increasing the literacy level of society and popularizing art and culture are evaluated as a reflection of the reformist policies of the period. In this context, it was revealed that the articles of Vala Nurettin form an important source for understanding both the understanding of journalism during the Single Party Period and the effects of the social and educational policies of the period on the media. In general, these articles provide an important perspective for the modernization process of the period and contribute to making sense of the history of social transformation of Turkey.
