Monopolies in the Era of Single Party, 1923-1946

In this study, in the period from Otoman period to the until the end of the World War II, during the historical development monopolies? contributions to Turkey, effects to the nation and the places in the economic policies were told. The case handed in this study, was examined by using the first, second and formal statistical datas.Turkish Republic took over a decayed economic heritage from the Otoman Empire. In 1923 ?zmir Economic Kongress, the new state?s economic model was decided and despite of the Lozan Peace Treaty?s economic restritions, a liberal system was practised until the world economic depression. In this period the monopolies belonged to the Duyun-u Umimiye remained to Turkish republic. The regime made these monopolies national and gave them to the private companies. While some monopolies were given to the foregin capital, the others were given the Turkish anonymous companies with the thoughts of create national bourgeois taken from Ittihat ve Terakki. Despite of the incentive practices like Tevsik-i Sanayi Kanunu, because oh the negative conditions of the period and 1929 World economic depression, expected developments in economy were not provided. Whereupon after 1930, ?statism? model whose political, social and economic directions were more dicussed, was practised. State took monopolies from the private companies and it directed them, indeed Monopoly Ministry was founded in this period. The taxes which given in the World War II were reflected to the monopolies in some way. The important part of the budget were monopoly incomes.
